The failure rate for mergers and acquisitions is a depressing figure, hovering somewhere between 70-90% depending on which study you use. Yet the ones that pay off can pay off big time. In the tech industry alone, one only has to look at Google’s acquisition of YouTube and Android, Apple’s acquisition of NeXT or AMD’s acquisition of graphics specialist ATI to see how an acquisition can change the trajectory of a company.
